Farm

We cultivate natural bush foods and have begun with the keystone species of yam daisy (murnong) which is largely extinct here in the Western District due to the consequences of widespread animal farming.

Recognizing that we are on land where Country was the supermarket that fed people for thousands of generations before colonisation, we seek to restore some of this cultivation. Alongside First Nations people we bring forward their farming knowledge to cultivate local foods such as:

Roots, Tubers, Bulbs

Murnong (Microseris walteri), Bulbine Lily (Bulbine bulbosa), Chocolate Lily (Arthropodium strictum), Water Ribbons (Triglochin procera), Cumbungi / Bulrush (Typha spp.)

Grains & Seeds

Native Grasses (Themeda triandra, Austrostipa spp.), Nardoo (Marsilea drummondii)

Fruits, Berries, Nuts

Native Raspberry (Rubus parvifolius), Native Cherry (Exocarpos cupressiformis), Cherry Ballart (Exocarpos strictus), Quandong (Santalum acuminatum), Kangaroo Apple (Solanum aviculare, Solanum laciniatum), Pigface (Carpobrotus rossii)

Leaves, Stems, Succulents

Old Man Saltbush (Atriplex nummularia), Purslane (Portulaca oleracea), Warrigal Greens (Tetragonia tetragonioides), Pigface (Carpobrotus rossii)

Flowers, Nectar, Sap

Banksia (Banksia marginata), Grass-tree (Xanthorrhoea australis), Sheoak (Allocasuarina verticillata)
